Jacob's Story

Jacob's Story

Jacob was born extremely premature at 23 weeks, weighing just one pound. A bleed on his brain led to multiple challenges, including cerebral palsy, vision impairment and frequent seizures.

The family spent the past year isolating, with daily walks becoming their cherished time together. Jacob's significantly impaired vision affects his balance and independence outdoors, so — to help him safely work on his balance, a goal set by his physiotherapy and vision teams — he needed protective headgear.

Though outside our usual scope, we connected the family with 500 Acts of Kindness, who funded an adapted helmet. “This helmet will look stylish and stop him damaging his head,” Jacob's mum explained, as he gradually gains independence with support and his long cane.

“Thank you to you all at Reuben's, and to your lovely sponsor who helped Jacob to get his protective helmet.”
